SELF PLEASURING AND SEX- THE RELATION AND INTER-RELATION

Self Pleasuring aka "Masturbation" is something people surf about a lot but never let it out. This is one topic around which many ideologies, perspectives and facts are available yet not accessible. This is one leading cause why a lot amount of myths around Masturbation. I personally feel that Print Media, Electronic Media and Social Media in the last 5 years have started to make Sex-Positive contents yet it doesn't give a right picture if masturbation contributes to Sexual Health.

Masturbation is defined as the manipulation of one’s own genital organs, typically the penis or clitoris, for purposes of sexual gratification. It is still considered a way of relieving Sexual Tension. Masturbation is a kind of a Sexual Behavior and not just an Sexual Act. In a recent research in the year 2022, A US-based sample revealed that 38% of women and 61% of men aged between 18 and 60 had engaged in masturbation. Almost 80% of women masturbate as per the statistics of Western Countries.

Many questions arise,
Does Masturbation decrease the sexual pleasure, during partnered sex?
Does Masturbation result to sexual dysfunctions?
Do Masturbating women have problem in experiencing orgasm during a partnered sex?
Does Masturbation reduce, immunity? and many more.....

To answer many of the above questions, are under research yet it cannot be concluded scientifically. Recent researches have been done to highlight, Masturbation as a Key factor of Sexual Health.

There is Generally two Models for Corelating, Masturbation with Sexual Health

Masturbation either compensates for the unfulfilled sexual pleasure or it aids up or complements the sexual pleasure. The effect of Masturbation on Partnered Sexual Health depends on various factors.
Some of which are,
  1. Body Image Perception despite of any gender
  2. The amount of Trust, Bond and Closeness the couple has
  3. Their Desires and beliefs
  4. Communication between the Partners
  5. Awareness of the Person's Body Response to any Sexual Stimulation
What does Masturbation do to your SEXUAL HEALTH ?
  • Masturbation helps you to have a positive impact on your Body Image status. Make you feel confident on your self and Body features. It's been reported that Women always have a lot of disgusting and dis-interest feel on their own bodies. And men report a lot of insecurities. Masturbation helps to wean of all these negative impact of Body Image
  • Self Pleasuring Helps you to know about your body awareness and it's response for any sexual stimulation. Let me make it very simple, Masturbation helps you to know How your body responds for a particular stimulation. If you like it or not, so you can communicate it with your partner and make your sexual experience the best. This picture demonstrates the different methods of stimulation in women and it has been reported that women usually use clitoral stimulation and that is why, in Partnered sex, women experience clitorial orgasm to about 96% when compared to vaginal orgasm which is 36%

  • It helps you to understand what Orgasm Actually means. It is been reported that the orgasmic threshold has been decreased for women who practice self Pleasuring, yet it is still under research if that has a positive or a negative impact in terms of the quality of Orgasm
  • Masturbation creates Sexual Confidence. As you know your Body Better, You'll be able to discuss about your likes and dislikes to your partner and you feel empowered and confident during Partnered sex
  • Sometimes, Masturbation also rules out any aversion disorders if any. Researches have stated that, women with vaginismus in Western Countries, notice discomforts or first line signs during the act of self pleasuring.
All the above benefits are corresponding to the moderate frequency of masturbation, whereas higher frequency of masturbation have been corelated with negative impact in partnered sex.

Studies have reported that Masturbation and Sex have no overall correlation or inter-relation as the effect of self pleasuring on sexual health is complex and depends on many factors. Some studies have also given a paradoxical relationship of the two. These two require a clear focus in further studies

To conclude is hard yet,  I conclude
"Masturbation is not a sexual activity, its either a Sexual Behavior and its a double-edged sword
To choose which end is our choice"
