PRE-MENSTRUAL SYNDROME "The Extreme Either Way"
PMS has taken its pace amongst most of the people in recent days, as the social media has started to make a note on it. We come across a lot of contents related to PMS like quotes, short videos, short films, documentaries or write ups.
Most of us know about PMS and when I decided to make a content on this topic, I never wanted to cover the emotional aspect of it. I don't want to use any of the "PMS customized words" like,
"Women are fragile"
" I am a different person every minute"
"I want to be treated like a child"
"Women feel low and composed"
Instead I want all to get the answers, to two common questions, "WHY IS THIS HAVOC, AN MONSTER THAT ARRIVES EVERY MONTH?" and "HOW TO MANAGE YOUR PMS?"
So, what's PMS ?
PRE-MENSTRUAL SYNDROME refers to the physical and emotional symptoms that occur one or two week before the women's periods and this resolves before the start of the menstruation, sometimes this even exceeds after the first five days of the cycle.
From the definition we come to know that each women PMS at different time of the menstrual cycle and their pattern of symptom also varies.
According to the Journal of the American Family Physician, almost 60% of women in American population experience mild to moderate symptoms of PMS and 8-10% even go through the most severe form of PMS called, PMDD (PRE-MENSTRUAL DISTRESS DISORDER)
WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF PMS?
The symptoms of PMS varies from one to other, from one cycle to the other or even from day to the other
You may feel bloated all the time,
You feel like you lost your appetite or sometimes it's like you feel hungry all the time,
Your joints makes you cry, your existing pain may peak,
You may feel vaginal wetness, or dryness,
You may feel exhausted or overenthusiastic,
You feel like lying on the couch all day long or work 24/7 because of the highest bounds of energy,
You feel irritated because of your breast tenderness,
You either feel constipated or live in your toilet,
You want to be with people or love to be abandoned,
You sometimes have sugary cravings or you badly want to eat some road side samosas with the spicy chutney,
You may hate those food and flavors, you used to love,
You may laugh for the stupid joke or shout for the silly stuffs,
You period acne makes you distressing,
You may be new, every month, every day and every time...
I hope you could Relate to the sentence, "The extreme either way"
PMS is more than MOOD SWINGS, We come across this term called "Depression" in the most easiest sense we could use! We relate PMS to Emotional symptoms only.
The reality is PMS has a lot of under-noticed Physical symptoms too!!
WHY THIS PMS HAPPENS?
Let's not go too much to the theory part, Its just your hormones
Hormones in our body take up a game to show their versatility throughout the life of a women sometimes these hormones becomes equally strong to show their power and that time falls between the PMS GATE WAY.
And the best part of this game is you can regulate their play through a lot of means, which is not much described in any of the social contents regarding PMS.
HOW TO MANAGE PMS?
All the films, awareness videos claims the fact that people around women should take care of her during her PMS or periods because she is fragile. But me being myself, I'll not accept this fact called Being fragile just needs someone to take care of us. Women must be aware of all the physiology that happens in her body, so she can also take care of herself. You may look fragile but you are'nt! . Yes, I accept the fact that we need and expect Love and Pampering those days, but why can't it be you pampering yourself. If you keep yourself at your priority, you can manage your symptoms.
HOW CAN I DO IT?
Know that it's you who complicate your symptoms,
It can be your food practices, lifestyle or even your stigma of PMS can worse your PMS
My mantra to manage is,
"GOOD FOOD-SELF CARE-SOME MOVEMENT-SOUND SLEEP"
GOOD FOOD: Its always better to follow your own food choices, make sure you don't take too much of sugar, oily food, its better you don't open your food ordering apps often because your hormones always have an effect on your gut motility which may result in constipation or increased bowel movements.
Its better to include much of seasonal fruits, infused water, dry fruits in your diet
Avoid caffeine and aerated drinks.
SELF CARE: Self care is one of the easiest way to prove that you love yourself. It can be simply a family time, a movie show, some music to your day, skin care or you can do anything that makes you happy.
Movie nights or Netflix has been Self care today, but I would generally not suggest it, as most women experience disturbed sleep or lack of sleep. The consequence is you'll feel insomniac and distressing.
SOME MOVEMENT: Its again your choice, You can do
Relaxation procedures
Yoga
Stretches
Aerobics
Dance
Walk
Or do whatever you want, do not be a couch potato...
SOUND SLEEP:
Sleep is the best relaxation
Sleep is the best self care
Sleep is the best medicine
To all the women who read this, I want to send you lots of love and a short message
HEY GIRL, IT'S NOT JUST YOU IN THE SCENE AND...
